It is a plain about 80 kilometers long, surrounded by the mountains Tarbagatay, Manrak and Sauyr-Saikhan. This historical area is called the Tsarskaya Valley, which really amazes with a large number of mounds, there are more than 200 of them, according to the tourist information center of East Kazakhstan Region.
One of the most important finds is considered to be the Golden Man discovered here, the third in Kazakhstan. The excavations at the Shilikta necropolis are among the outstanding discoveries of recent years. It is believed that it was in the Shiliktin valley that the great culture of the Saks originated and the so-called animal style was developed.
Location
The Shilikty necropolis is located 510 kilometers from Ust-Kamenogorsk city, about three kilometers southwest of Shilikty village.
Description of the route
Leave Ust-Kamenogorsk city and drive along Almaty highway in the direction of Kalbatau bowery. The main points of the rout looks like as follows: Ust-Kamenogorsk-Kalbatau bower- Kokpekty bowery- Tarbagatay bowery – Zaysan – Schylikty bowery- Schylikty valley.
It is supposed, that hereafter an open-air museum similar to set up at the Berel Mounds or “Ak-Baur” will be established here. Notwithstanding, the area is still not fenced, you will not find any guards or guides here.
