This place has worldwide scientific significance. It is called the Valley of the Kings, and the Berel Museum complex is open here. Almost 15 years ago, scientists from the Margulan Institute of Archaeology and the National Research Center of France made a sensational discovery – they discovered a burial mound with the burial of a Saka leader in the valley of the Bukhtarma River, dating back to the III century BC. Important discoveries were also made a few years ago.

Historical and Cultural Reserve-Museum “Berel” is located in the Katon-Karagay district near Berel village of the same name, 450 kilometers from Ust-Kamenogorsk city.

Route description

Let’s mark the main points of the route: Ust-Kamenogorsk – Altay (former Zyryanovsk) – Ulken Naryn village (former Bolshenarym) – Katon village – Uryl village – Berel village. The latter is our main landmark. About 1,7 kilometers away from Berel village there is a museum-reserve of the same name. Here you can see with your own eyes the Berel mounds, or the Valley of the Kings, to look at the sensational finds that were discovered here.

This time is necessary to get there without hurry, have a rest, see the museum-reserve “Berel” and the beauty of the surrounding region.

You need to know this

You can spend the night in a tent, but remember that you are on the territory of the Katon-Karagay State National Natural Park. Therefore, experienced tourists are advised to ask the park staff where exactly you can put up a tent. You can ask everything upon arrival at the place.
