Resourse: Legends, fairy tales of East Kazakhstan = legends, tales of East Kazakhstan. – Semey: Artex, 2018. – 122 P.)
A long time ago there lived in these places a man from the family of Kirzhi – Yrgyzbai Doskan uly, who had the talent of a healer. Having extensive experience in healing, he was able to recognize the disease and make an accurate diagnosis by the pulse of the patient. The healer read ancient books and communicated with Chinese healers from Xinjiang. They exchanged knowledge and various medicinal herbs with each other. Yrgyzbai Doskan uly was also a son of a chiropractor and treated people even from smallpox, which earned him great fame. At that time, he was a very famous person not only in the East Kazakhstan steppe, but also beyond its borders. His doors have never been closed to people, and he did not take money for treatment. Patients went to him every day: each with his own illness. Without thinking about his own health, the healer helped everyone, healing with herbs and comforting with words. As a true physician, he sought not only to heal the exhausted human body, but also to alleviate his mental suffering. He also possessed the gift of a seer, for which he enjoyed unquestionable authority: people believed him, obeyed him, followed his advice — people loved him very much. According to legend, Yrgyzbai-ata was able to cope with the serious illness of the father of the great Kazakh poet Abai.
After recovering, in gratitude for the healing, Kunanbai presented the healer with a mare with a foal and said: “If Allah allows, with this mare you will not know the need.” And indeed, until the end of his days, Yrgyzbai-ata did not need anything. According to legend, after becoming an elder and feeling the approach of his death day, Yrgyzbai-ata bequeathed to his descendants to bury him on a hill next to the Kumista spring. They say that even after his death, the doctor continued to help people. Once a certain man named Shynybai was wandering in the steppes near the grave of Yrgyzbai and spent the night there. In a dream, he saw his three recently deceased children and began to mourn them. The Aksakal was already old and did not hope that he would still have offspring. But then the good doctor Yrgyzbai Doskhanauly appeared, who assured that Shynybai would soon have children. Inspired by the joyful prophecy, Shynybai calmed down and believed in the possibility of happiness for himself and his wife. Before dawn he left there with hope in his heart, and then, in order for people to remember the wonderful national doctor as long as possible, he erected a monument on his grave and a stone fence around it. Soon the Almighty granted Shynybai three sons. Almost two centuries have passed since then. Many stories about the secrets of the great elder have been preserved in the people’s memory. It is claimed that he treated people with plants growing in the Tarbagatai Mountains, including ephedra, which has been known since ancient times. Scientists learned that this herb tones the cardiovascular system of a person only in the 20-30 years of the last century.
Today, hundreds of people interested in the history of their ancestors come to the mausoleum of Yrgyzbai-ata to pay tribute to the famous healer. People kneel there and say prayers addressed to God, for the soul of the healer, for themselves. In the understanding of the Eastern Turkic people, graves have always been the corner of the earth that disposed to thoughts about life, eternity and the soul. Many interesting things are told about this sacred place. They say that it attracts people passing by with its special energy, since the miraculous influence of Yrgyzbai-ata is still felt. Some people believe that to heal the soul and body, you need not only to visit the grave of a famous healer, but also to spend the night in this place where prophetic dreams are dreamed. There are also certain rules: spending the night in the ritual rooms for sleeping, it is necessary to cleanse the soul of evil thoughts, and you need to leave before the first rays of the morning sun flashed. The mausoleum of Yrgyzbai-ata is under state protection. Nearby there is a museum with exhibits from all over the world, and a library with thousands of ancient books, including medical treatises by the famous Arab doctor Ibn Sina, written in the XVII-XVIII centuries. Nearby there are natural springs where you can drink, wash, collect clean water and therapeutic mud.
Yrgyzbai-ata possessed not only medical knowledge and skills, but also a warm, sensitive heart full of love for people. People say about people like him: “To a kind person and someone else’s illness to the heart”, “To a kind person — eternal memory”. His life is a worthy example for everyone who wants to be a good person worthy of their outstanding ancestors.
