The legend of the origin of the name of the city Urzhar

If the first invasions of the Dzungars began from Tarbagatai, from the vicinity of the Urjar region, then the decisive battle was also here.

But during the period of the Dzungarian invasion for 123 years during the reign of the Dzungars, many remaining Kazakh villages coexisted with the Dzungars. Traditions and language were adopted.

In the historical book written by Shapyrashty Kazybek in 1776, it is written that there is no Kalman who does not speak the Kazakh language and there is no Kazakh who does not speak the Kalmak language. The name Urjar follows from these consequences. In the lower reaches of the Urdzharsky River, along the bank of the Sarybulak River, trees of various types, tall poplars, karagayniki, birches, and turanga grow before flowing into Lake Alakol. It is surprising that the branches of these trees are abundantly covered with nests of various birds. River banks in steep cliffs, pits. A horse rider can hide in them. The slopes of the yar are covered with nests of birds. In Mongolian, the word nest means “UUR”. Gradually, one U is displaced and the URZHAR remains, i.e. the yar is covered with nests.
