The Legend of the Clairvoyant Orik

By Word Of Mouth » The Legend of the Clairvoyant Orik

In the east of the vast Kazakh steppe, the majestic Tarbagatai Mountains stretch out. This ancient land carefully preserves the stories of great people who lived here in different eras. Among them, a special place belongs to the clairvoyant Orik.

Orik lived on the lands of the Jumyk Karasha clan, located on the northern slopes of Tarbagatai. His prophetic gift was widely known among the people, and many came to him for advice.

One day, while traveling through these lands, the volost leader Zhaksybai decided to visit Orik. Before leaving, he asked the clairvoyant:

— What can you predict for me?

Orik, after some thought, replied:

— I will tell you two things. First, your father, in the afterlife, rides a three-legged horse. Second, within nine days, you must return home and say goodbye to your loved ones.

Zhaskybai, struck by these mysterious words, thanked him and set off on his journey. The people accompanying him were puzzled: what did these strange predictions mean?

On the ninth day, Zhaskybai reached home. Feeling that his time was running out, he explained to his companions the meaning of Orik’s words:

— When my father died, I slaughtered a lame horse for his funeral feast. Now, in the other world, he rides a three-legged horse. And the period of nine days meant that my own life was coming to an end.

Saying this, Zhaskybai passed away.

Thus, the clairvoyant Orik once again confirmed his gift of seeing the past and the future. Since then, the legend about him has been passed down from generation to generation, preserved in the memory of the people.
