Sulushoky

By Word Of Mouth » Sulushoky

According to ancient legends, when people moved to summer pastures, a rich man named Esdaulet set up his camp in the Ulken Naryn area. He was said to be incredibly wealthy and possessed untold riches.

Esdaulet had an only daughter named Sulu, a beauty whom he treasured more than anything else in the world. But her heart belonged to Shoki, the son of a simple shepherd. When Esdaulet learned of this, he became angry and ordered the poor young man to be killed, but he did not tell his daughter anything.

When Sulu learned of the terrible fate of her beloved, she went to his burial place. Mourning Shoki day after day, she shed so many tears that she went completely blind. But even after losing her sight, the girl continued to come to her beloved’s grave. One day, slipping on the edge of a cliff, she fell down and crashed to her death.

Shocked by his daughter’s grief, Esdaulet ordered her to be buried next to Shoki, saying:

– «Since they were not destined to be together in life, let them at least find peace together in death».

Over time, two hills grew on the site of their graves, which over the years turned into a mountain. That is how this corner of the earth was named Sulushoky.

They say that Sulushoky was once just a low hill, but over the years the mountain grew higher and higher, turning into an inaccessible peak that is not afraid of either the wind or flying birds. If you look at it after the rain, you can see how thick fog spreads at the foot, but never reaches the top. And when the sun rises, the whitish veil seems to break in half, revealing pure light.

And people also say that on dark nights a melody can be heard over Sulushoky – drawn-out, sad, as if the mountain itself is singing about unfulfilled love…
