Once in a dream an angel appeared to the young man and gave this advice: “Korkut, your mare is the shin of a six–year-old camel. Now cover it with the skin of a one-horned camel, install a stand made of the horn of a dark-red goat at the top and pull strings of untwisted horsehair from a five-year-old stallion and you will have a wonderful instrument.”
Another ancient legend researched by the famous writer M. Auezov narrates. Korkut from a young age could not come to terms with the transience of life and decided to fight death.
“Korkut leaves people, but everywhere and everywhere he sees death: in the forest, a rotten and fallen tree tells him about his death and the inevitability of the end for Korkut himself; in the steppe, a feather grass, burning in the sun, tells him the same thing; even powerful mountains told him about the destruction awaiting them, invariably adding that the same end awaits Korkuta. Seeing and hearing all this, Korkut, in his lonely torments, hollowed out the first kobyz from the shirgai tree, pulled strings on it and began to play, pouring out his painful thoughts and feelings. He put his soul into these melodies, and the wonderful sounds of the strings sounded all over the world, reached people, captured and captivated them. Since then, the melodies of Korkut and the kobyz created by him have wandered the earth, and the name of Korkut has remained immortal in the strings of kobyz and the hearts of people.”
