According to legend, the batyr had a strip of hair from the neck to the spine, similar to a mane. For his incredible speed, fearlessness and bravery, Barak-batyr was awarded praise from Abylai Khan. According to legend, in the war on the Ili river, Kokzhal fought Baldybek, the enemy of Abylai, won and brought him to his knees before Abylai. Then Abylai patted him on the back, saying “Kokzhalim-ai”. In all sides of the Great Steppe, wherever the Kazakh people needed protection from raids, Barak batyr appeared with his warriors. Being at an advanced age, the batyr continued to participate in battles and campaigns. The famous Kokzhal Barak batyr died at the age of 70 and, according to some sources, was buried in the south of Kazakhstan.
