Kyzylkayin is one of the most fertile and moisture-rich places in the Tarbagatai region. In ancient times, there was a small spring here, at the source of which a lone birch tree grew. Since then, this area has been called Kyzylkayin, which means «Red birch». It is believed that the name is associated with a special, slightly reddish shade of its bark, especially noticeable at sunset or after rain. One of the parts of Kyzylkayyn is called Moyildy («Bird cherry»), because of the dense thickets of bird cherry trees that grow especially violently in these parts.
